Duane opened with a definition of marriage: “A marriage is one man and one woman united in a lifelong covenant established in the presence of witnesses.” He then used God the Father’s relationship with Jesus within the Trinity as a model in which to talk about a husband’s and wife’s relationship. As God loves Christ, so should a husband love his wife, delighting in meeting her needs. As Christ honors and obeys His Father, so should a wife delight in honoring and obeying her husband. He ended with a challenge to love sacrificially: “Ask each other, ‘What can I do to make your day better?’”
