Children should be able to look back on their growing up years with pleasure and good memories. Every child needs to be viewed as being formed in the image of God. Each one needs personal attention. Parents should know the character and needs of each child.

Proverbs says to train up a child in the way he should go. Whether he chooses right or not, the Lord will use that training to direct him. Parents need to guide their children, rather than simply telling them how to live. Teens will feel free to share with their parents without tension if the relationship is maintained from childhood. Children should know with confidence that their parents won’t guide them wrong.

Children need to know what “no” means. Pointing at parental flaws is no excuse for a child’s wrong choices when he knows what is right.

Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers. Proverbs 17:6
