The past several sermons have to do with putting off things, and this verse continues in the same pattern. This verse speaks about putting off stealing. it basically says that you should stop stealing and start working so that you can give. Several times in the Scriptures Paul wrote that people should work with their hands.

Man was commanded to work in Genesis 2:15. God gave man a garden to take care of. Work is a pre-fall assignment. It is something that we were created to do.

What or how I think about work will have the biggest effect on our children. Boys should work to be an asset instead of a liability to a family. Not that the goal is to get rich, but they should work for an increase. This is a Creation principle, and we should take our resources and put them together to make an increase. Girls should work to learn motherhood. Girls should also be an asset to the household.

It is also good that men and women should work so that we can give to those in need. First comes family, then brothers and sisters in God's family, and also your neighbor.

We need to keep the global village in view as we wrestle to define our family's need.

"Hard work spotlights the character of people. Some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all". -Sam Ewig

Ephesians 4:28

28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. (ESV)
