As Christians our security must be found in God. How can we feel secure when there are verses that threaten our security? One verse among others that may threaten our security is I Corinthians 10:12 - "Therefore let him who thinks he stands, take heed lest he fall". Verses like this threaten our security in everything besides God. Sin is an effort to feel secure in anything other than God. One of the key messages in Scripture is that God is worthy of our trust.

There are promises of things we will inherit when we place our trust in God. We may be tempted to place our trust in things of the earth, but the beautiful paradox is that God will give the earth for an inheritance only to those whose security is not in it. If our focus is on our self and on our performance before God, we are not trusting God. Instead, we need to think about how God wants to care for us and throw ourselves upon him in full and utter dependence.

Ephesians 1:11-14

11In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. (KJV)
