The Fear of God ()

Bennie Byler, January 26, 2014
Part of the Sermon series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Earlier: Same day: Later:
« The Christian's Joy None The Imminent Return of Christ »

Brother Bennie began by saying that we need to fear God in His holiness and His righteousness. He shared some of his own fears. God has placed fear within us for a purpose. There is a place for wholesome fear.

The word "fear" in one form or another is found 400 times in the Old Testament and 100 times in the New Testament.

We are to fear, worship, and obey in our spiritual lives. When you fear God, you have nothing to fear.

Brother Bennie used a wide selection of Scripture from Deuteronomy. We were asked, "Are we considering the goodness and greatness of God? Are we convinced that the Lord is mighty? Do we believe it? Are we passing it on?"

Brother Bennie asked parents, "Do you know whom you are serving?"

Brother Bennie said he believes that as we trust, fear, and follow God, it will help those we come in contact with.

We were asked, "Are you fearing the Lord? Are you close to HIm?" This is where our salvation is. Several verses were shared from Proverbs. Do we believe in the promises of God? Do we claim His promises?

Brother Bennie closed with a story of how, after several tests, a young Indian boy was left in the woods overnight while blindfolded. When dawn broke and the boy removed the blindfold, he realized his father was standing only a few feet away. His father had never left his side.

We were reminded that our Lord never leaves us nor forsakes us.
