Colossians 1:1-8 Colossians is a book of connection…
This passage of Scripture was an outpouring of thankfulness to the church at Colosse. When we see committed
followers of Christ and that God is using people, it should make us more thankful. Let us let God work in our lives
that we would be the cause of thankfulness. Thanksgiving should be a part of all our prayers. It should become a
habit of all believers to start our prayers with thanksgiving. When we pray as a group there is lots of power.
There were three virtues that Paul mentioned that the church at Colosse had. Faith, Love and Hope.
Faith- believing in Christ
Love- identifies as Jesus disciples. Faith will lead us to love, love that is willing to sacrifice. Galations 5:6 for in Jesus
Christ neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith oppressing itself
through love. The church should be filled with love. Are you exhibiting love in your lives today?
Hope- Hope sees the mystery of God. Why have faith in Christ if there is no hope in the future? Our hope is not simply
for this life but for hereafter. The church will be stable, sure and solid when they have these three virtues: Faith Love
and Hope.
The gospel needs to be shared with everyone. People are saved because someone shared the gospel with them. The
gospel is for the whole world. God has one message for everyone. We are called as a body of believers to tell others
about Jesus.
How are we growing in Christ? The gospel is the power of God. We can see from this passage that the gospel was
coming out from the people at Colosse. We are not growing if we are not bearing fruit. Spiritual growth should be
common for a Christian. That is why Paul was thanking them because he saw the people from Colosse were growing.
How can we grow if we do not spend time in the Word? As we grow in Christ it will attract others. God uses you and I
to share what God has done for us. Are you, am I committing to this calling?
Instead of talking behind someone’s back, let us talk about the good points in them. We should be lifting each other
up. Let us talk positive of others. There is power in the words we say about others. The Colossians were known for
their love. Love is not always a feeling, it is also a choice or action. What are we going to do with all of this? There are
still many people that need to be touched by our lives, by the fruit we bear. As people see our fruit, tell others who
we are. Let us talk each other up, let us let that love be evident in our lives. How are we growing? How does our fruit
look?
